PJ Party - Zoom Lesson plan

Zoom is a beast especially as people are getting more and more bored of online learning and lockdown in general. So i thought i would share my lesson plans with the hope it will inspire and help you :)

Over zoom i have been focusing on fun and making it a safe space for my dancers to relax and enjoy dancing as i'm sure we are all feeling the metal effects of lockdown.

Age - 4-6 years

Style - Ballet / Jazz or Creative dance

Length- 40 Minuets

Everyone Loves a Theme

Get everyone to dress up (or down) into your comfiest pjs. it gets them excited about class and is super cute to boot! It's also really simple which i think is really important for parents at the moment as were all so stress and can't remember what day it is most of the time! This theme is super simple and takes minimal planing

Warm Up - Wake up

We started "asleep" so we could warm them up gently starting with some arm stretches and basic port de bras disguised as yawns before standing up to do some simple pliés, tendus and foot mobility to warm up our feet. We used the song Pyjamas by Justine Clarke

Jumping on the bed

We then practiced our jump in 1st and 2nd position by pretending we were jumping on the bed (single bed for jumps in 1st and double bed ) and i had a grumpy monkey on a stick who would pop up to tell them off for jumping on the bed and they would all hide. I used this grumpy monkey throughout the class to keep them focused and there attention on the screen. We used the song Five little monkeys jumping on the bed by Pancake Manor.

I have attached the pdf of my monkey below. i just printed, cut him out and laminated him before hot gluing him to a kebab stick. this worked really well and was super cheap and easy to do!

Teddy Bear Game

A PJ party wouldn't be complete without a cuddly toy. We played a game where we took it in turn to make our teddies perform different ballet moves from pliés to arabesques. Its a great way to help them remember terminology too.

We Like Wearing Pyjamas - Transference of weight

This song has a really nice rhythm to it for pliés and transference of weight exercises. I combined our pliés from 1st to 2nd with traveling round the room (skips, tiptoe walks, gallops etc). I find that keeping them moving is key, keeping them on the spot for too long and they get distracted especially the younger age groups. We used the song We like wearing pyjamas by bananas in pyjamas.

PJ Party Dance

We then learnt a super fun and cheesy dance in our pjs to the song PJ Party by Cheekyroos. It was a really fun high energy end to class. Its really simple so translates easily over zoom. heres a video of me doing it on tiktok.

I hope this helps you when planing your zoom lessons :) let me know in the comments!
