Giddy Up Cowboys- Lesson Plan

Yeehaa grab your cowboy boots and stetson it cowboy week!

Warm Up.

We love a warm up to introduce the theme of the class. It's also a great opportunity to sneak in some of the steps we will be using in todays dance! For our warm up we used the song "Born to be a cowboy". We did lots of marching, box steps, heels and toe taps also the song has a really simple rhythm so you can do the steps half time or double time depending on the level of your class.


Dress Up.

Everyone knows I love any excuse to dress up! For this class we had cowboy hats which were plastic so were super easy to clean after class.

Exercises.


Pony Trots - You can't be cowboys without a noble stead! So of course we have to practise our Retiré's pliés building up to our pony trots. We even do a little obstacle course using yoga blocks as haybails to jump over.


Heels and toe taps - This fun exercises plays around with using different body parts to create different speeds and rhythms. We used Knee Slappin' By Mr Gym.


Dance.

At the moment we are having to stay spread out to keep everyone safe, happy and Covid free, so i wanted to create a routine that celebrates friendship and give them chance to dance with each other even if from a distance.
