Favourite 5 Obstacle Courses

I love an obstacle course we use them every week for our little stars class (our super cute 2-4yrs award book syllabus) there a great way to work on a range of skill and look so fun and engaging that even the shyest of children want to join in!

Below i have listed five of our favourite obstacle courses we have used this term!

The Essentials.

Hoops - We love these flat hoops as they are less likely to trip over them. We use different patterns to encourage little and big jumps. We also spread them out for hops and leaps.

Dots - These are a staple in class, wether working on formations or walking on tiptoes there are so many choices. These are great but if you wanted a more budget friendly idea, grab a yoga mat a plate to draw round and a pair of scissors.

Blocks - Yoga blocks are so versatile! We have been using ours to practice pony trots and jumps, stacking them higher to challenging them! For our little ones we lay them flat to make a beam or bridge as well as standing them up to encourage them to step over them and balance on one leg.

Cones - Cones are great to encourage weaving or marking out where different activities change over (i.e jump to the red cone and hop to the blue). In our older classes we even leap over them.

Masking tape - This one is so simple but so fun! We use masking tapes to create tightropes in a variety of patterns to encourage spacial awareness and balance. We have also used masking tape to mark out different shapes and then given each shape a movement. Jump like a star, spin in a circle, slide along the line, etc.

We add different props and objects depending on the theme but these are the essentials that we use over and over again!

My Top 5!

These are 5 obstacle course that you could use in your classes in mix things up. I hope you find them helpful.
