Elves In Training
Its the count down to christmas! I have already watched, Elf, The Grinch, Christmas Carol and Arthur Christmas so i am well a truly I the christmas spirit! With elf on the shelf being such a huge christmas trend (see our Pinterest board for inspiration to share with your dance mums ) it seemed like the perfect theme for Christmas Classes!
Heres how you can sprinkle some elf magic into you class.
Whats your Elf Name ?
We created these flash cards with funny christmassy words on them. get your dancers to pick two to be there elf name! Then call them by there elf name for the rest of the class. For example I began Tinsel Glittersocks and Laura was Holly Jolly!
We also created these fun badges for you to write there elf names on!
* These worked GREAT! A) to help us remember there elf names & B) as a way to get them talking about class to there parents when they got picked up!
Dress Up!
Everyone loves to dress up as especially at christmas. You could even make it christmas jumper week at your school or crazy christmas hair. We love these super cute elf hats!
Elf Code.
A true elf knows the elf code. Make your elves in training recite the elf code! Hand on heart :)
Training The Reindeer.
As elves they need to train the reindeer to follow each other across the sky. we start by doing exercises like retire's, releve, skips and hops. We then play a dance version of follow the leader. We also like to use the IDTA's pony trots and gallops exercise.
Present Delivery Training.
I think the elves in the north pole would of had to go through some army style training before they were allowed on the slay. so make your dancers overcome a series of dance related obstacles such as weaving in and out of the presents, jumping over the cones, crawl through the tunnel, leaping from hoop to hoop (or roof top to roof top ;p ) and finally tiptoeing past the sleeping teddy to deliver the present.
Present Rescue.
That mean mister grinch has stolen all the presents! Its your job to rescue them, get your assistant (or a student) to be a sleeping grinch. The elves have to tiptoe over to him, every time he moves they have to freeze and if he wakes up/ sits up they have the drop to the floor. You can incorporate different dance moves maybe they have to skip hop or gallop back in celebration once they have rescued all the presents.
Sing Along.
"The best way to spread christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!"
All elves know singing christmas songs is one of the best parts about christmas! teach them a happy and simple christmas song like Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! Along with some simple actions.
* Enforce to your dance parents how amazing you are by having them in to watch this short dance! It'll stick in there heads when it comes time to reenrol for the next term.
